Media wall cost calculator
On our example rates, a 3 m wide media wall with shelves either side of a 65 inch TV, plastered ready to paint, comes out at £3,250 – £4,050, before any electric fire. A floating unit on the same wall is £2,900 – £3,650. Your fitter's own rates will differ, so use this to get a rough number before anyone comes out. Every price on this page is subject to survey.
Example rates, not any firm's prices. It shows a price and asks for nothing: no name, no email. As you choose, a line drawing of the wall changes to match.

Which layout?
Shelves either side is the layout most firms show: a plastered centre for the TV, with open shelves set into the wall on both sides. Our example prices everything else against it.
A floating unit is a slimmer wall with a cupboard that sits off the floor under the TV. Less is built, so it comes out about a tenth under shelves either side.
A chimney breast builds out the middle of the wall only, the way a chimney breast stands out from the alcoves. It is priced on that centre build, and the centre follows the TV, not the width of the room. So the price stays the same whether the wall is 2.6 m or 4 m. A bigger TV moves it:
| TV size | Example guide price |
|---|---|
| 55 inch | £1,800 – £2,200 |
| 65 inch | £2,150 – £2,650 |
| 75 inch | £2,400 – £2,950 |
| 85 inch or more | £2,600 – £3,250 |
Cupboards below, shelves above puts closed storage at floor level and open shelves over it. It prices close to shelves either side.
Floor-to-ceiling storage fills the wall either side of the TV with cupboards and shelves, top to bottom. It is the biggest build and costs about half as much again. With a 65 inch TV it needs a wall of at least 2.8 m.
If a layout needs a wider wall than yours, the calculator still shows it, greyed out, with the width it needs.
What is included in a media wall price?
The examples cover the built structure: the frame, the boards or plaster, the recess for the TV, any shelving or cupboards, and fitting. They do not cover the TV or electrical work. Ask your fitter exactly what their price includes before you compare two quotes.
What changes the price of a media wall?
Most fitters price per linear metre, so more wall costs more. The exception is a chimney breast, priced on the centre build.
Plastered layouts come either plastered, ready to paint, or plastered and painted. Painting takes the 3 m shelves-either-side example to £3,550 – £4,450. Layouts with cupboards are made from board: MFC is the cheapest, then vinyl-wrapped MDF, spray-painted MDF and real wood veneer. Door style moves it too. A 3 m floor-to-ceiling wall in spray-painted MDF with Shaker doors is £7,100 – £8,850.
The calculator asks whether you want an electric fire. On our example rates, a fire supplied and fitted takes the 3 m shelves-either-side wall to £3,900 – £4,850. If you already have a fire, building it in gives £3,400 – £4,250.
Lights in the shelves, a soundbar slot under the TV and having the TV hung and set up are extras. All three on the 3 m shelves-either-side wall give £3,650 – £4,550.
New sockets and cable runs behind the TV are electrical work and usually need a qualified electrician, so check whether that is in the price or on you.
Questions
Is this a quote?
No. It is a guide price from example rates. Only a fitter who has seen the wall can quote.
Where do the example rates come from?
They are the starting rates GuidePrice gives a new fitter before they enter their own. They are not a UK average, and no firm is bound by them.
Why does the calculator ask my TV size?
The TV sets how wide the middle of the wall is, and how big the recess and any fire opening are. On a chimney breast it sets the price.
Is a small media wall cheaper?
Yes, but most fitters have a minimum job price. Our example has a minimum job of £1,200, so a very small wall comes out at that minimum, still shown as a range and subject to survey.
Why is the price a range?
Because nobody has measured the wall yet. What is behind the plaster, where the sockets go and access all move the final price.
